Delivering high-quality design at pace on a weekly F1 magazine

As a designer on Autosport, a weekly Formula 1 magazine, I learned how to create polished, impactful designs within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Overview /

During my 2 years as a designer on Autosport, I honed my design skills in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, playing a key role in the design team and crafting engaging spreads that captivated our readers.

My role

I collaborated closely with a Senior Designer and Art Director, often proofing and signing off designs in their absence. I also got the chance to conceptualise and design the front cover on a few occasions. In addition to designing the weekly print magazine, I worked on a variety of other projects:

  • One-off bookazines.

  • Event promotion and signage.

  • An annual Autosport directory.

  • Advertisements.

  • Packaging for WHSmiths.

What I learned

Collaboration was vital to my success in this role. I worked closely with copywriters, illustrators, and photographers to produce visually compelling content.

This experience not only strengthened my design capabilities but also enhanced my storytelling skills, deepened my understanding of content, and refined my ability to thrive under tight deadlines while consistently delivering quality work.
